In developing the revolutionary SeaCore System, MerCruiser moved the entire industry forward in a way that makes other saltwater engines and drives seem instantly inferior. Rather than just enclosing the drive components in a plastic shell, they are protected all the way to the core with industrial hardcoat anodizing, a closed-cooling system and widespread use of stainless steel components. All of which makes for the ultimate in corrosion protection.
MerCruiser sterndrives are legendary for their unequaled strength. Now with the SeaCore System, MerCruiser extends that legendary strength to corrosion resistance.
The heart of the corrosion-resistant strength of the SeaCore System is its hardcoat anodizing of the drive alloy. This process actually changes the molecular structure of the XK-360 aluminum alloy, creating a shield against the ravages of galvanic corrosion. Hardcoat anodizing is also more abrasion resistant than case-hardened steel, but if the drive is scratched, the anodizing slows the destructive growth of corrosion through the drive surface. Corrosion can also affect more than just the drive.
